In this segment of the Genesis 1 to Revelation 22 Project, we are still implementing soap but in a “devotional manner.” We will still look at the text and draw our observations from the text and seek to apply faithfully. However, the whole segment will be done in a prayerful manner, seeking to engage our hearts and our minds upon Christ and His truth.
SOAP: Read Scripture > Observations on the Context > Apply Faithfully > Pray the Scripture
Except Ye Be Converted
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
We must have childlike faith and dependence on the Lord. If we quote “become adults and independent,” we cannot receive from the Fathers’ hand. Yes, we are to mature in our faith, but we are to always have the dependent faith posture of a child. Without it, Jesus says that we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. Likewise, it would be better for anyone that offends (discourages, belittles, puts down) the childlike faith of another that they were thrown into the sea and drowned. That is a very vivid and horrifying warning! May we heed the warning, have childlike faith, and not offend the true faith others have in God. And may we not mislead those who are, physically speaking, children.
